Landscape art
Landscape art is something I am constantly inspired by, either a local scene or landmark, a stunning view, a clump of trees reflected in water, or just the corner of a garden.
Although I'm currently working mainly with water colour and gouache, I also work heavily in pencil and sometimes charcol, chalk and pastel. I have yet to explore oil.

Seascape art
I spend quite a lot of time at the beach especially the Witterings near Chichester. The tides vary from far out expanses of sand with pooling, studded with lines of groins , to high tides with waves lapping at mounds of pebbles.
The sky's are also vast and panoramic, stormy or peacful, shafts of sunlight breaking over the sea, or unrelenting blue and clear, with strong shadows. Most of my records and notes are photographic; I've tried some live sketching on the beach, but I'm rarely quick enough to capture clouds on the move, or a fast receding tide, though I'm still trying to develop a shorthand style to make it work.

Sculptures
Most of my current sculptures are wood based, mainly because I am used to working wood as a builder and gardener, and collecting branches and logs for my insatiable wood burner.

Abstract art
Abstract Art covers an awful lot of ground, and I sometimes would argue that almost all drawing , painting and photography is "Abstract", because it is a concentration of focus on a particular aspect of reality, and is therefore an abstraction.
However, when making any art, decisions have to be made as to how much deviation from reality, has to be made. What to put in, what to leave out, how much simplification, rationalisation and order to impose, or how much to allow the hand of fate and happy accidents to stay. So basically this section is "Less Figurative" than some of the others, though a photo of stains or old flaky paintwork is very evocative of Figurative scene.😄

Miscellaneous art
This section is for one-offs, odd projects, and items that I couldn’t construct a whole page or category around

Photographs
Most of my drawing, painting, graphics and general work is heavily backed by photographic notes and records, But many photos are just an end in themselves.
I currently shoot a lot when at the coast, as I almost get to relax there, until I see something to shoot, or play with: Clouds, sea, sand, pebbles, weathered timbers, old ropes and general sea debris, natural or man made
