Some recent Life Sketches

Although I did life work when I was at Art College, I hadn’t done any since then (50years ago), so I was hugely excited to be introduced to some adult life drawing sessions, with poses from 3-5mins -10-30mins, some sessions might even be a bit longer.

This has seriously sharpened up my "Eye", and sketching skills, though in reality my actual eyesight is definitely not what it was.

I have been blessed with a rich and varied supply of models, though of course the standing and more dynamic poses are the short ones, and the more comfortable sitting or reclining ones are the longer ones.

A general selection of work done last year

I predominantly work in pencil, favouring a 6B finish, though have tried some Water colour ones, Pastels on Buff paper, +"Staedtler Aquarell" which goes on like a pastel, but can be wet brushed over as well, dissolving a little or a lot as desired.. still early days with that, and it works best on proper water colour paper.

This was a sketch from my college days at Isleworth, definitely a strong Triangle going on in there.

I am always trying to make the most of light quick gestures of line, this was trying out a box of pastels. Note: sometimes its a relief to just draw the back, as when you have a face to capture, and a very short timed pose, you just never have enough time.
